Zombie Bike Race at Northark

Solar Eclipse 2024

North Arkansas College (Northark) invites everyone to the south campus to enjoy activities leading up to the 2024 Solar Eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024. The eclipse will start at 1:53 p.m.

The Science Department faculty will provide a 40-minute educational program on the science behind the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse. This presentation will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Science Building. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Moon, and Earth are in a direct line. The Moon completely blocks the Sun, and the sky will darken as if it were night. A total solar eclipse is only visible to a small area on Earth. This area is the umbra and often referred to as the path of totality. Learn the unique aspects that make Harrison, Arkansas on this year’s path of totality.

A Zombie Bike Race will begin at 11:30 a.m. on the Pioneer Wilderness Mountain Bike Trail. Participants are encouraged to dress up as their favorite zombie (bike as well, if desired) and be prepared to hit the trail while other Zombies try to catch you during the race. College bookstore gift cards will be awarded for the top bike race winners and for the three best costumes. The public is welcome to enter and there is no entry fee. Average riders should plan to ride 25-40 minutes. To enter, visit: https://www.cognitoforms.com/NorthArkansasCollege1/ZombieBikeRace

An eclipse viewing party will be held in the Learning Resource Center (Library) from Noon - 2:00 p.m. Eclipse-themed games, music, snacks, and proper sunglasses will be provided to all attendees.
